About

Pocket Online is dedicated to the premise that journalists must better serve the communities in which they publish. To accomplish this imperative we: a) Live within the community we serve; and b) Develop relationships with community groups, service organizations and un-elected community leaders. This allows Pocket Online and our writers, contributors and editors to understand the true issues which affect the people who live here. Issues which are very different from those facing people who live just a few miles away. This dedication allows Pocket Online to: a) Discover which issues, events and people truly affect the people who live, shop and work in the Greenhaven and Pocket neighborhoods; b) Understand the history and depth of these issues; c) Relate so fully with the community we serve as to become identified with the community; and  d) Restore relevance to journalism through our community reporting and relationships.

Editor Michael Langley designed this premise through his 15 years as a journalist and created Pocket Online to serve both his community and the profession he loves. Journalism is about service. Community is about connecting through the things that we have in common and part of that commonality is geographic. We face many of the same issues because we have access to (or do not have access to) the same places to shop. Our children attend the same schools. We walk and play in the same streets and parks. Information allows these commonalities to become strengths. We as a community are stronger when we all know why city services are changing or why a library or school is opened or closed. Our strength becomes a power others must contend with and we can draw from.

But hey, it’s not all news and issues. The best things in the Pocket are the good things that make this a great place to live! Send us your pictures, video, events, well-wishes and anything else going on in our community. Comment on a story. Send a picture of Pocket life (or even your pets) to editor@inourpocket.com. Spread the word to your neighbors. Most of all, let us know what you think about what’s going on. After all, this is our community!

Small business owners … if you want the opportunity to speak to thousands of Pocket area people every month, learn more about a business partnership with Pocket Online when you click here and check out our advertising page.
